The results are in and Mazda once again proved its excellence in one of the industry’s most reputable studies — the JD Power Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. While Mazda didn’t claim the top spot, it outscored many of its top brand competitors, including Ford, Nissan, Honda, and Toyota, among others.

Clik here to view.Mazda scored a 790 out of 1,000, which positioned it five points ahead of the mainstream brand industry average of 785. Scores are determined by consumers who evaluated their vehicles after 90 days of ownership based on 77 factors, such as fuel economy, design, functionality, technology, and interior quality. Those 77 factors combine to create an APEAL score based on a 1,000-point scale.
In addition to outranking some of the most recognizable automakers in the entire industry, Mazda took home a category award for the Mazda6, which continues to set the pace in the midsize sedan segment. The Mazda6 beat out the Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata, which were the other two finalists.
With a score of 790, Mazda scored one point higher than Ford, 3 points higher than Nissan, and 7 points higher than Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota.
As a leader in the fuel-economy category, Mazda earns major points from consumers who sited efficiency as the lowest-scoring category in the entire industry. With new and exciting offerings like the Mazda CX-3, expect the brand to continue to move up this list in the coming years.
