So, you’re hopping on the crossover bandwagon – or you’re looking to switch to a Mazda from your current model (nice choice!). We can definitely help get the ball rolling there, but first you’ll need to decide which model is right for you. With the impending arrival of the all-new 2016 Mazda CX-3, we thought we’d take a look at the two current offerings on the table and see how they compare to one another. It’s the Mazda CX-5 vs Mazda CX-9 – Which one’s got what you’re looking for in your next vehicle? It all comes down to a few key areas:
Seating and Space
This will undoubtedly be the big one for most shoppers. If you’re looking for something a little smaller and five seats will suit you fine, the CX-5 will have you covered. Looking to squeeze a few more passengers in? The CX-9 offer seating for seven. When it comes to cargo space, then, of course the CX-9 will be at an advantage there as well with a max cargo volume of 100.7 cubic feet to the CX-5’s 64.8. When all the seats are in use, however, the CX-5’s 34.1 cubic feet trumps the CX-9’s 17.2 by nearly double, so that’s something to think about if you’re planning on a full cast of characters along for the ride on most trips, or if you’ve got a pet that’ll be looking for a ride as well.

Power and Efficiency
The Mazda CX-9 houses a 3.7-liter V6, while the CX-5 has got a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV I-4 engine. For you, the driver, this means noticeably more horsepower in the CX-9, but significantly better fuel economy in the CX-5. The 2015 Mazda CX-9 gets 273 horsepower and provides you with mileage to the tune of 17 city/24 highway, while the CX-5 gets more in the neighborhood of 26 city/35 highway with its 155-horsepower 4-cylinder.
